Basketball Official Makes Call to Increase Kids' Opportunities

Will Nichols is more than just a collegiate and high school basketball official. He sees the connection between sports and social issues such as health issues (see obesity), youth violence, self-esteem, leadership and sportsmanship.

Will is the executive director of Sports in Schools, a non-profit that provides funding for under funded school programs and activities in Washington state. Through Sports in Schools, more kids have the opportunity to participate in sports and do so more fully (e.g. summer camps) to achieve the benefit of the sports in which they play.  Will says,
“If we don’t support our kids and our schools what do we expect from our future? Connecting kids to their schools is so important and the research is clear that athletics is one of the best ways to engage at-risk kids in the life of their school."
